Adopt-a-Vine was started in 2004 by Bob and Barbara Nixon at their Gisborne Peak Winery in Australia, under the trade name ‘MyVine’.

Bob and Barbara recognised that people were interested in the how’s and the why’s of wine, as much as in the taste of wine. In fact they saw the opportunity to take people into the vineyard at critical times of the year so they could appreciate the vine-to-wine process.

Over the years people have adopted vines because they want to learn and to have a sense of being involved in the seasonal cycles of a vineyard even though they were not vignerons themselves. The program has grown over the years to a point where enquiries are coming from around the world for membership.

Adopt-a-Vine has now expanded to unite people and vines throughout the world. From little things, big things grow. Wine lovers meeting, learning and sharing – adopting one vine at a time. Gift giving made easy.

You can ‘adopt’ a grape vine at wineries across Australia and New Zealand though the Adopt-a-Vine website. You getn Kit showing your vine with a personalised hang-tag with the Adoptive Parents name on it, the kind of vine (Chardonnay, Pinot, Shiraz, etc), a map showing the location of the vine and best of all – a discount on wine purchases during the adoption period which usually runs for 3 years.

It's fun, quirky but also educational. It’s about learning more about the vine-to-wine process, thereby making the understanding and drinking of wine even more enjoyable. Throughout the year Adoptive Parents and partners are invited to join in seasonal activities in the vineyard experiencing a day in the life of their vine. Hands-on days might include canopy management, crop estimation, vintage when they help to pick the grapes, pruning techniques and more.

Adopt-a-Vine is available at wineries in Victoria, NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia,Tasmania and New Zealand. There’s a winery near you with vines that are looking for Adoptive Parents.
