The 2012 Festival of Glass will be held in February at the Bellarine Basketball.
This unique event includes:
- stalls by glass artisans, craftspeople and companies
- demonstrations of glass-working techniques
- exhibitions of glass art, sculpture, jewellery & mosaics
- displays of historical and contemporary glass collectables
- glass-related competitions
- workshops and classes by exhibitors.
Around 6,000 people visited the 30 exhibits in the inaugural festival in 2011, which attracted extensive coverage in local and regional media and tourism promotions. The 2012 Festival has many more exhibits in a much larger space!
At the 2012 Festival of Glass, leading edge artistic creativity meets innovative design, handicraft and manufacturing. The Festival is unique in Australia and joins a handful of equivalent events worldwide (e.g. Wanganui, NZ; Houston, USA; Stourbridge, UK). The Festival of Glass offers a new, unique showcase to local glass artists, craftspeople and companies and encourages others to establish themselves in the area. It encourages the contemporary glass industry to collaborate with local glass artists and craftspeople and it is creating a growing national and international identity for the area as a centre for glass art, craft and industry, reviving the Bellarine Peninsula's historical link with glass manufacturing.
Visitors to the festival of Glass can enjoy a full day out in Drysdale. Be entertained by local musicians as you taste local wines and foods; visit the nearby Drysdale Craft Market; and ride the historic Bellarine Peninsula Railway between Drysdale and Queenscliff.
The Festival of Glass is an initiative of the Drysdale and Clifton Springs Community Association and the City of Greater Geelong and the Bendigo Bank are major sponsors.
