Barwon Ridge Wines is a picturesque vineyard situated in Barrabool, in the heart of the Moorabool Valley, west of Geelong, on the Geelong Bellarine Peninsula wine trail, Southern Victoria.
Barwon Ridge Vineyard sits on a northern ridge above the Barwon River, and overlooks the You Yang plains to the west, Bacchus Marsh, and Corio Bay to the east. The vineyard was planted in 1999, on the side of the hill that does not suffer from frost. The soil is mostly sandy loam over shallow limestone hence the very well drained soils
There is approximately 3.6 hectares (9 acres) under vine. Plantings comprise Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Marsanne, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Barwon Ridge 2004 marked the first vintage from the vineyard, with small quantities of Marsanne and Shiraz produced. 2005 and 2006 also produced pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon but again quantities are small due to the drought.
Visit them also at their other vineyard in the Yarra Valley : Kings of Kangaroo Ground.
