Levantine Hill Estate, a magnificent new vineyard and Truffiére in the Yarra Valley east of Melbourne, takes its name from the Levant, the blessed, ancient biblical lands known as ‘the lands in the east where the sun rises’.
The name Levant was given to these lands by the French and is derived from the word ‘lever’ (to rise). The Levant formed part of the Fertile Crescent around the River Nile – and so too is Levantine Hill Estate blessed with richly fertile soils.
Levantine Hill Estate wines will only be produced in outstanding years when nature is generous and the grapes are impeccable.
Located between 150 and 220 metres above sea level, Levantine Hill Estate’s vines fan out over steep clay loam slopes at similar elevations to the Grand Crus vineyards of Chablis, France.
