Melbourne Food and Wine Festival

SBS Food Journey Festival has been announced as an opening event of the 2011 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.

A celebration of the rich culinary and festive traditions of Australia’s most culturally diverse city, the inaugural SBS Food Journey Festival will satisfy all palates with an impressive showcase of SBS’s hottest food talent and a feast of multicultural cuisine, music and dance.

The event will plate up on the first day of the 2011 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, the premier event of Melbourne’s culinary calendar, running from March 4th to March 6th.

Featuring an indoor and outdoor format, the event will be housed in the heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton Gardens. SBS Food Journey Festival will share the stunning space with the World’s Longest Lunch, one of the highlights of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival calendar.

SBS food personalities Maeve O’Meara, Costa Georgiadis, Sean Connolly will be joined by renowned chefs Greg Malouf and Tony Chiodo as they don their aprons to inspire audiences live on stage.

With more than 150 food and wine exhibitors expected, SBS Food Journey Festival will feature a Growers Market with fresh ingredients from the garden to the plate; a Bazaar, with a selection of the best herbs and spices; and travel taste stalls from local ethnic restaurants to tantalise with delicious international cuisine, as well as the best wine, beer and non alcoholic beverages.

As the perfect complement, there will be five stages throughout the festival featuring cooking demonstrations and tips from Australia’s top chefs, showcases of the latest cooking tools and equipment, entertainment centred on the food traditions of Australian immigrants, and internationally flavoured music and dancing.

National Manager Content Sales and Distribution for SBS, Sharon Ramsay-Luck says the SBS Food Journey Festival is unlike any other food event on the festival calendar.

'This festival is a celebration of the wonderfully diverse food, culture and traditions of multicultural Australia. SBS has a broad and unique slate of food content and talent which will be showcased to take visitors on an amazing culinary and cultural adventure.'

Managing Director of Expertise Events, Gary Fitz-Roy says the Festival is a recipe for success.

'Melbourne is Australia’s most culturally diverse city and is renowned for its incredibly passionate and sophisticated food culture. SBS Food Journey Festival celebrates this culture and offers a place where SBS Food fans, budding chefs, kitchen whizzes and gourmets can be inspired and motivated to try, buy and learn new things in the world of good food, wine and entertainment.'
