Walks in Nature Melbourne (2nd edition)

The great Melbourne region has a unique array of unspoilt natural habitats. You don’t have to travel far to find yourself deep in towering eucalypt forest, exploring wetlands around historic sites, swimming in sheltered coves, or scampering along untamed cliff-tops.

Each of the 32 cards in Walks in Nature: Melbourne details one of the best hikes within two-and-a half hours of Melbourne that can be completed within a day. The selection covers Melbourne’s more famous trails as well that l as some only local hikers know about.

This revised edition includes four new walks to try.

As southern Victoria’s landscape varies considerably over the year, the cards are organised seasonally.  Coastal walks promise cool breezes in summer, inland walks through vineyards and farmland take on the colours of autumn, walks closer to the city centre can be enjoyed during the shorter daylight hours of winter, and those passing native flowering plants are spectacular in spring.

On one side of each card, there’s a clear and detailed map, whilst on the other there’s a photo and information on what you’ll see along the way, as well as a suggested place to stop for coffee, a light meal, or to buy delicious local food for a picnic.

Walks in Nature: Melbourne is a collaboration between Diana Carlile, a passionate walker, and Anna Carlile of Viola Design, a communication design company that draws inspiration from nature and encourages design that celebrates and protects the environment.

Walks in Nature: Melbourne (2nd edition) by Viola Design is published by Hardie Grant Travel/Explore Australia (Sydney, NSW; Oct 2017; 32 cards; RRP A$24.99).
