Managed by the Melbourne Cricket Club for almost 160 years, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is the epicentre of Australian sport. To step inside the MCG is to be energised by the tradition and spirit of great sporting achievement.
The MCG is Australia's biggest and most popular stadium and an extremely busy venue accommodating international cricket, Australian Rules football, concerts, dinners and major functions. Each year there are more than 80 days of football and cricket and more than three million people visit the ground.
The MCG has National Heritage Listing status and has been the scene of many great sporting events including the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, Test cricket, international soccer, rugby union and rugby league. On the last Saturday in September each year, it plays host to Australian Football's incomparable Grand Final.
Even when the grandstands are silent there is always plenty of activity at the MCG. An MCG Tour invites the visitor to relive the many great moments of Australian sport and experience the rich heritage of this magnificent stadium. With an informative guide, an MCG tour takes you behind the scenes of the stadium and Melbourne Cricket Club. The tour includes a walk on the arena (subject to availability), a visit to the player change rooms, Cricket Victoria's Bill Lawry cricket training facility, the famous Long Room and MCC Library. A fascinating array of sports memorabilia, artefacts and artwork adorn the various rooms and spaces throughout the ground.
Following the redevelopment of the northern side of the stadium, the stadium now showcases the finest facilities in the world. This state-of-the-art grandstand adds further new dimensions to the MCG experience, including the National Sports Museum opened in 2008.
Visitors are able to undertake a MCG Tour, visit the National Sports Museum or combine both activities.
