Mornington Peninsula's artists exhibit at Hickinbotham
Hickinbotham of Dromana
Art is so subjective; so personal, a premise which the local artists exhibiting their works at the inaugural Hickinbotham Artfest recognise. A diverse and exciting collection of works will be on display at Hickinbotham winery (194 Nepean Highway, Dromana) on November 1 through to 4. All pieces – large and small – will be available to purchase during the four day Artfest. The ten local artists participating in this Artfest include:
Carol Foster, who is a modern impressionist painter whose work encapsulates the Rhythms of the Land in all its vivid colour.
April Maynard adds a completely different angle with mixed media in the form of funky, humorous designs.
American Matt Langleirs is a Chain Saw artist who is responsible for many of the Timber jump designs for major world horse events including the 2004 Sydney Olympics.
Michael Leeworthy's eclectic paintings have impressionist overtones.
Eileen Gordon's exquisite glass piecesare renowned throughout the Peninsula and she will be exhibiting modern pieces with options of Outdoor Garden styles.
Gary Turner will exhibit modern cast ceramic body sculptures which celebrate the beauty of the human form.
Geoff Rankin's fluid timber furniture with pewter inlays will add another dimension to the Artfest.
David Skvor is a sculptor and artist who uses fresh, clean framed lineal lines as part of his signature works.
Stephen Ashmore's paintings have a mysterious depth incorporating an almost surreal ‘sense of mist'.
Robert Ford is a sculptor whose work utilises metal, timber, glass and stone and is “driven by the sights and experiences of my life in the bush, the bays and the people that eek out an existence on the land and sea”.
“Sometimes art is overlooked in the overall scheme of support and we were encouraged by some of the exceptional work produced by local artists to help them continue their journey of discoverich in turn benefits us all by the stunning and often uplifting work they produce”, said Andrew Hickinbotham. “The pieces will not only capture the eye, but also the heart”!
As part of the 2008 Artfest, Andrew and Terryn Hickinbotham have introduced the Hickinbotham ‘Sustain the Dream' creative arts Award for which secondary School students studying arts are eligible to enter. This award aims to encourage and support young artists in varying mediums and will be judged over the weekend with the winner of the Award announced on November 5.
