Rahona Valley Vineyard, tucked away in Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, was established in 1991 and with production around 200 cases, obviously stocks are limited. The conditions are excellent for Pinot with deep well drained, red basalt soil, cool maritime climate and a long ripening period.
With a quantity so small, it's not surprising to learn that all work is undertaken by the dedicated owners - John and Leonie Salmons - picking, pruning and winemaking. They produce a Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, a sparkling, a Pinot Rose and as of 2008, a Pinot Gris. A cider is also produced.
This pleasant vineyard is well worth the visit. By appointment only.
