International Cool Climate Wine Show 2011
Promoting the grape varieties and wine styles of cool climate regions
Media release
Created over 12 years ago, the International Cool Climate Wine Show is an annual event promoting the grape varieties and wine styles of cool climate regions, comprising judging, a public tasting, a classic lunch and a dinner.
This year’s new activity is the Cool Climate Classic Lunch on Friday 27th May at 10 restaurants across the Mornington Peninsula with a special price of $49.50 (inc. booking fee) for a two course meal and glass of wine.
The wine show itself attracts well over 600 entries from the cool climate regions of Australia and New Zealand – around 20% from the Mornington Peninsula, 20% from Tasmania and 20% from the land of the long white cloud.
Other areas contributing are the Yarra Valley, Macedon Ranges, Whitlands and Geelong in Victoria and the Limestone Coast and Adelaide Hills in South Australia.
The venue for the public tasting and dinner is the prestigious Gunnamatta Room at the Mornington Racing Club where all 600+ entries are available for tasting.
The event attracts large numbers of people wishing to learn more about cool climate wines, with the main grape varieties being Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling.
The important elements of the wine show open to the public are:
The public tasting on the evening of Wednesday 25th May, affords an excellent opportunity to compare over 600 entries from cool climate regions. Times are 6pm – 8pm, venue Mornington Racing Club (MRC) - $20 includes a Luigi Bormioli, the sponsor’s, engraved glass.
The Awards Presentation Dinner is on Friday 27th May from 7pm – 11pm also at the MRC, showcasing Peninsula produce – sponsored by Mornington BMW and the Federal Group.
A new innovation, the Cool Climate Classic Lunch, is on Friday 27th May at restaurants around the Peninsula also highlighting local produce.
