'Gracebrook's long driveway climbs past magnificent stands of red gum to an atmospheric cellar door sited in an 1880s-vintage timber and iron stable. From the outside deck there's a lovely tranquil vista of forest and mountain. It's a family-friendly place with landscaped lawns, plenty of space for kids, and a pétanque court to test the skill of the grown-ups. The range of wines includes Italian-inspired Sangiovese and Dolcetto among more recognised types like Riesling, Shiraz and Merlot.' Ralph Kyte-Powell

Constructed during the 1880s near Whitfield in north east Victoria's beautiful King Valley, the Gracebrook Vineyard Stables have been at the heart of the property for more than 110 years. The stables were in need of substantial restoration when David and Rhonda Maples purchased the property in 1998 from the Jarrott family who had owned the property continually from settlement of the King Valley. During the next two years, some 75 acres of vineyards were established on the property.

The now fully restored Stables are the centrepiece of the property. With magnificent views along the King Valley and across the snow-capped Victorian Alps, the Stables now house an expansive restaurant and tasting area, leading through to the timber deck overlooking the vineyards.

Gracebrook wines are a reflection of the passion David and Rhonda have for their vineyards. The winery like many in the region is now producing some classic Italian varieties such as Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Dolcetto. These Mediterranean style wines compliment their Savagnin, Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz wines.

Visitors are welcome to enjoy the atmosphere and character the stables provide for Gracebrook Vineyards and the King Valley. The cellar door features gourmet homemade meals and wine tastings. Displays of art and antique farm equipment should pique the interest of art and history buffs visiting the region.
