FESTA RUSTICA is a celebration of outstanding wine & slow food at Chrismont's Cellar Door on the hillside overlooking the vineyards. The event warms up as part of the Wines of the King Valley's Weekend Fit for a King on the Queen's Birthday long weekend, June 6 & 7, 2009.
Matt Wilkinson, head chef at Circa, leads the Chrismont culinary team in preparing delectable, rustic winter dishes. Join us as we celebrate under spacious, warmed marquees.
New release reds, great for chasing winter s chill, include Shiraz, Cabernet, Marzemino and Barbera.
A selection of rustic foods includes a generous antipasto platter ($18) with Mount Zero olives, capricollo, pork terrine, smoked eel rillettes, carrot & honey salad and pickled white anchovy, served with crusty bread. Or guests can choose from pasta con sugo and beef polpette ($15). Three choices of gourmet, wood-fired pizzas served with wild rocket on top ($15 each): funghi, prosciutto & goats curd; taleggio, potato, garlic & rosemary; or four cheese with house-made black olive salt. A cheese platter ($15) includes a selection of local cheese and Mildura dried fruits served with crusty bread and crackers. A delicious dessert of sticky date pudding ($8) and exhilarating Red Star espresso put a final, complementary touch to the weekend s menu.
