Beechworth's famous Ned Kelly Weekend returns from 6-8 August with a lively program of re-enactments, theatre, art, music, displays, market stalls, competitions and talks by leading authorities on the subject of the life and times of Australia's most notorious bushranger.
Now in its seventh year and widely regarded as this country's most important annual celebration of the Kelly legend, the weekend event commemorates the anniversary of the outlaw's committal hearing held in the historic Beechworth Courthouse from 6 to 11 August 1880. This year's Ned Kelly Weekend has the added significance of the 130th anniversary of Ned Kelly's trial and execution. The original four suits of armour worn by the gang will be on display together, only the 4th time this has occurred, and a first for North East Victoria.
