Darling Estate in the King Valley of NE Victoria sources its grapes from Koombahla Vineyard, the first vineyard to be located in the upper King Valley, located in Whitty Lane, Whitfield.

Cabernet Sauvignon was first planted by Guy Darling in 1970 to be followed by Riesling, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and more recently Nebbiolo.

Guy planted over 50 acres of vines and proved the region to be most favourable for cool climate viticulture. He investigated extensively the Koombahla terroir and used this knowledge to produce grapes of diverse varieties recognised for making premium wines.

Although grapes have been sold, most notably to Brown Bros where they are are made into a premium "Koombahla" label, in 1990 small quantities of wine were made and this has continued under the label "Darling Estate Wines".

Today Koombahla produces a variety of wines from its extensive plantings of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sylvaner, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Nebbiolo and Shiraz grapes. The wines from the King Valley have very clean and strong varietal characters and good acid balance.

Wine tasting and sales are available by appointment and a feature of Darling Estate Wines has been a conscious decision to only release wines with bottle age.
