Mackereth's Winery is the original winery & vineyard planted in what is now regarded as one of Australia's most distinguished and distinctive wine regions – The Pyrenees.
Established in 1864 with the first vines planted in 1887, the Mackereth family operated vineyards and wine shops in Avoca until family tragedy and economic down-turn drove them out of business in 1929.
Renowned Mount Avoca winemaker Matthew Barry and his wife Lisa have restored the beautiful 5 acre gardens and replanted the vineyard with Tempranillo – a Spanish variety perfectly suited to the Australian Pyrenees.
