Jones Winery & Vineyard is situated at Rutherglen, in the Legends Wine and High Country district, Victoria (approximately 300 km north east of Melbourne). Rutherglen is one of the oldest, continually active wine growing regions in Victoria.
The Jones Winery and Vineyards has plantings of amazing (by Australian standards) old vines, some of which were planted just after the turn of last century.
The area has a rich history of gold and farming. Most of the wine growing properties in the area have been owned and run by the same family for generations. Jones Winery and Vineyard is one of the oldest of the Rutherglen properties and its vineyard was established in the 1860's.
Currently Jones Winery and Vineyard is owned by the brother and sister team of Arthur Jones and Mandy Jones. They have been working the 75 hectare property since 1998 after taking over from their uncle. The owners are the children of Les's only sibling Douglas (a winemaker for Seppelts in Rutherglen until 1984). Having grown up surrounded by wine some of it rubbed off - whilst each one of them had followed a different career path initially, the call of wine and, in particular Rutherglen, was just a little bit to hard to resist.
