Tasting notes - Anderson Winery (Vic)
From Rutherglen in Victoria's North East
This tiny family winery from Rutherglen produces a surprisingly wide range of wines, specialising in full bodied reds and sparkling but also justifiably proud of their rosé.
Anderson Winery is located in Rutherflen in North East Victoria. All wines are made entirely by Howard Anderson, with 40 years wine industry experience, and his daughter Christobelle who has completed her honours and had overseas vintage experience. They are unashamed perfectionists with every aspect of their winemaking which is reflected in the quality of their wines.
Anderson 2009 Shiraz Rosé
This wine is inspired by the rosés of southern France (Provence / Tavel).
It is not a light red, and it is not sweet. It is made from hand-picked, early harvested, unirrigated shiraz grapes grown in our vineyard in Rutherglen, and the juice was immediately removed from the skins. This lack of skin contact means that the wine really has the structure of a white wine, rather than a light red.
The juice does pick up some colour as the grapes are very small and intense due to lack of irrigation. The 2009 is relatively highly coloured due to the extremely dry season, but it is still light and elegant on the palate.
It has lovely cherry fruit flavours and a refreshing finish, with absolutely no residual sugar.
Alc/vol 10.7% alcohol.
RRP A$18.50
Anderson Winery will be donating $2 for every bottle of their delicious 'pink wine' (a deliciously dry rose) to the McGrath Foundation through to the end of Easter 2010.
