The crew at Stanton and Killeen Wines are buzzing with excitement after their Grand Rutherglen Muscat was awarded the prestigious Best Fortified Trophy at the Australian Boutique Wines Awards dinner in Sydney on Friday night.

This follows the outstanding result achieved last month when their Classic Rutherglen Muscat picked up the trophy for Best Fortified Muscat at the International Wine Challenge in London; one of the largest wine shows on the planet.

Under careful guidance from winemaker Brendan Heath, these magnificent wines are blended using many different parcels of wines that have been maturing in the cellars of Stanton and Killeen for years. Some of these wines date back sixty years and have been used in the Grand Muscat blend.

Seventh generation vigneron, Simon Killeen who has recently returned to the family winery after a stint in France said “It’s great to see two different Muscat classifications get up and win awards not only nationally but internationally.”

The Grand Rutherglen Muscat is a blend that stands on a foundation of wines vinified by fourth generation winemaker, Jack Stanton, fifty to sixty years ago. Careful blending and deft choices of select parcels has produced a wine that shows the superb balance of freshly baked fruitcake characters, richness and deep, luscious flavours with a fresh, dry finish. A must drink on a comfy couch, warm fire and a good book or your favourite dessert.

The Classic Rutherglen Muscat is a lot more about raisins, rosy florals and a dash of aged complexity. The palate is naturally lighter than the Grand but has as much vibrancy of fruit and presence that will accompany most cheese platters, desserts or even high tea. Another favourite way to drink this wine is to pop it in the freezer over the summer months and enjoy it chilled as an aperitif.

Both wines are available at cellar door and selected retail outlets.
