Sommeliers Australia have successfully amalgamated the NSW and Victorian Chapters, and new state-based Chapters are to be established in Queensland and Western Australia early in 2009.

Sommeliers Australia has also been accepted as a member of the prestigious 'Association de la Sommelierie Internationale' (ASI), which now means that Australian sommeliers are now able to compete in international Best Sommelier competitions. This year for the first time there will be a Best Sommelier of Asia-Oceania.
