This ultimate guide to eating out in the west has officially been launched to the cheers of restaurateurs and patrons around Western Australia and is proving to be very successful, with the first round of prints selling out in just 4 weeks.

Edited by The West’s award winning restaurant critic and columnist Rob Broadfield and assisted by an experienced team of restaurant reviewers, The West Australian Good Food Guide is easy to read and contains over 200 restaurant and bar reviews.

'Many of the Perth chefs I speak to have been waiting for this for a long time' says renowned Australian chef Neil Perry, 'The Good Food guides in NSW and Victoria have been advising the dining public in those States for 25 and 30 years respectively. They have played a pivotal role in shaping the dining landscape and educating customers'.

The tried and tested 0-20 scoring system is used with the best of the best being awarded between one and three stars. As well, there are a number of awards for the highest rated restaurants.

Described as 'the Full Monty – generous, welcoming, comfortable, coddling and upmarket' along with stunning food, Jackson's is one of Perth's finest restaurants and has been awarded Restaurant of the Year.

Best New Restaurant has gone to Greenhouse which is part restaurant, part bar, part environmental statement with a kitchen garden on the roof and straw bales in its walls – 'about as much fun as you can have with a low carbon footprint'.

Selene, part of the luxury Pinctada Cable Beach resort in Broome, took out Country Restaurant of the Year. Overseen by Greg Malouf, the food is North African and Turkish with a contemporary twist, though uniquely Broome in ingredients and produce.

One of the best bistro and wine bars in the country, Must Winebar, was awarded Wine List of the Year with a wine list that 'demonstrates value for money and provides an excellent by-the-glass and half bottle list'.

Hadleigh Troy, the brilliant and celebrated chef from Restaurant Amusé has become Chef of the Year while Matt Stone at Greenhouse described as 'one of the most accomplished young chefs in Australia' has been awarded Young Chef of the Year.

As the Guide went to press some new exciting restaurants were in the pipeline – Neil Perry's new Rockpool Grill at Burswood (now open), Steve Scaffidi's big, bold new CBD restaurant Sentinel (now open), Sebastian Bouchard's new venture in Northbridge (opening later this year) as well as Kate Lamont's East Perth restaurant which has closed for renovations (reopening in 2012).

There are quick pick Five of the Best sections throughout the guide for breakfast, budget asian, burgers, café, coffee, pizza, fish and chips, pub meals, small bar, tapas and vegetarian. As well, regional restaurants from around the state are listed showcasing the vast diversity of fine dining and fresh produce WA has to offer.
