Scary medal avalanche in Margaret River
Results fo the 2010 Margaret River Wine Show
Media release
Perhaps the well respected Chair of Judges Iain Riggs said it all when commenting on the exceptional results of the 2010 Wine Show, 'Margaret River is on fire with outstanding wines across all styles and varieties. From an eastern states winemaking perspective it's pretty scary stuff'.
The Margaret River Wine Show is extremely important to the regional industry and bringing real value for marketing through a trophy or medal win in an open competition. The Wine Show also enables producers to see the best wines produced that year, and see what the potential is for variety and style within the region.
Overall the independent panel of judges awarded 423 medals from 774 entries, an almost unheard of medal strike rate of 55% with a staggering 52 Gold, 93 Silver and 278 Bronze. 2010 results were 14% higher than 2009 and reflects Margaret River’s growing stature as one of the best wine regions in the world. Wine Show Chairman Stuart Watson said, 'The results reflected the unwavering focus of the greater Margaret River wine industry on producing premium fine wines. This coupled with our wonderful climate and geography with little seasonal variation lends itself to the consistent production of internationally competitive premium fine wines'.
'The Association is committed to utilising the Wine Show as a greater marketing platform spring board for our wine brand as it did with the inaugural Margaret River Wine in Sydney event. With consistent wine show results over recent years the message will become louder and louder that Margaret River is a true world regional home of the vine and wine', said Mr Watson.
