The name Alkoomi is taken from a local aboriginal dialect and translated means a place we chose, located in the Frankland River region, Great Southern, South West Australia.
Alkoomi's red wines enjoyed success early on and Alkoomi has continued to produce elegant cabernet, shiraz and cabernet blends.
The quality of Alkoomi Riesling has helped establish the reputation of Frankland River as one of the best areas for this variety in Australia and the Sauvignon Blanc is also regarded as one of the best in the country.
The wine is made by Michael Staniford and his assistant Ryan Charuschenko, and there are 102 ha under vines.
Visitor hospitality at Alkoomi was enhanced early in 2004 with completion of an 80 person capacity function room, supported by a kitchen and bar. This has attracted local weddings, family gatherings and conferences which have been thoroughly enjoyed. Group Bookings can be catered for at any given time with notice.
