Burnside Organic Farm & Burngalows and Three Boys Wines are located in the Margaret River wine region of Western Australia's South West Coast.
Jamie & Lara McCall purchased Burnside in 1998. Their cousins Steve & Sandy Harvey came over around 2001 with a bottle of Cape Mentelle Zinfandel. Totally taken in by its seductive rich berry fruit, Jamie knew exactly where the vineyard was going. The front paddock with Karri loam soils. More research showed it to be perfect for our maritime/mediteranean climate. Margaret River is very similar to the Puglia region of Italy where it has been grown for hundreds of years. It Italy it is called Primitivo, meaning first to ripen.
With three little boys and new plantings of avocados, olives and macadamias to look after, it was somehow achieved in a happy blur. Max, Ned & Dan, the three sons of Lara & Jamie spent endless days sleeping in prams or playing in the dirt while this was achieved. Being unirrigated and organic from start meant many replants. The boys were invaluable helping as they got older. Now 16, 14 & 11 years old they are expert grape pickers and helpers in every aspect of the farm.
