Windrush Wines is a boutique vineyard located in the fertile granite hills of the Mount Barker Wine Region. A 10 minute drive from the vibrant Mount Barker town centre, the property offers a stylish cellar door and gourmet café with sweeping valley views across the vines.
Bordered by the spectacular Porongurup Ranges and the historic St. Werburgh's Chapel, the 11.7 acre vineyard is planted on north-facing slopes that provide classic cool climate ripening conditions for premium grapes. Gravelly loam soils over friable clay create an ideal terroir that offers increased water-holding capacity to produce intense fruit from natural rainfall.
As the name suggests, the Windrush vineyard always has a breeze which is a great asset in keeping the vines healthy-the air movement enabling minimum vine spraying.
Although not certified ‘organic', Windrush observes organic growing principles and utilises ecologically friendly products. Adding beneficial microbes to the soil enriches our vines and ensures we produce excellent fruit year in, year out. Instead of using pesticides we have a team of 100 willing workers to gather up every unwelcome pest in the vineyard - Guinea Fowl! The natural way to do it!
