King's Cottage and Shop

The original owner of this house, George King, was a bootmaker who kept his shop in the small room projecting from the front facade. His son carried the mail between Guildford and Toodyay in his own carriage. The carriage was kept in a small slab-and-brick stable which is still standing at the rear of the house. The buildings have altered a little, and are a good example of modest town dwellings of their period. Details of interest are the black boy-trunk flooring in the stable and the thick clay tiles on the floor of the verandah.
