WA breweries take out top honours

Cowaramup Brewing Company’s Pilsener was judged the best lager in Australia taking out the award for Champion Lager at the International Beer Awards announced in Melbourne recently.
The competition is the largest in Australia and one of the most prestigious in the world attracting 1195 entries from 34 different countries.
Cowaramup brewer, Jeremy Good said, “I am really pleased with the result. The Pilsener has always been the most popular beer at the brewery. The locals have always favoured the Pilsener – just goes to show they know a good beer when they drink it!”. Cowaramup were also awarded a silver medal for the Cowaramup Porter and Bronze for their popular Hefeweizen.
Bootleg Brewery won the Champion Trophy for the best Wheat Beer with their Sou West Wheat and also scored well with Silvers for their Settlers Pale Ale and Raging Bull and a Bronze for their Hefe.
Western Australia dominated the awards with Feral Brewery in the Swan Valley winning Champion Ale for their Hop Hog, the Monk Ale from Monk Brewery taking out the champion reduced alcohol beer and Gage Roads being awarded the Champion Packaging Award.
Colonial, Duckstein and Eagle Bay Breweries all featured well winning a number of silver and bronze medals.
